We look for dressage show shirts that are tailored for a woman's body. Some Dressage shirts offer front and back seams, and stretch material to keep the shirts from being bunchy. Other brands like Romfh offer show shirts up to 3x for larger ladies and these are generous in fit.
The White Dressage Shirt
We have progressed from the standard white nonstretch show shirts. We look for competition Dressage show shirts that are lightweight with technical athletic thin stretchy fabrics that offer riders moisture-wicking and breathability. These features in today's show shirts help riders regulate their body temperature. Dressage shirts for ladies and show shirts come in sleeveless, short sleeve, and long sleeve varieties. Many brands of English Dressage show shirts for women have mesh underarm inserts to help keep you cool and also have UV sun protection.
It is always safe to wear a white traditional riding show shirt under their Dressage jacket or Shadbelly tailcoat. A white riding shirt is a gold standard for most any English equestrian competitions. Riders should choose a show shirt that is long enough to tuck into breeches and that buttons comfortably. One of our favorite Dressage show shirts has a 3/4 zipper and this is easier to keep clean and close as compared to buttons.
Fashion Show Shirts
Equestrian show shirts for today's Dressage rider come with features such as floral print underlays, Coolmax moisture-wicking fabrics and modern, wrap-style collars to give your little one a look that is both timeless and unique.
Long Sleeve Dressage Show Shirts vs Short Sleeve Dressage Show Shirts
What type of dressage show shirt do you prefer? This comes down to the difference between long sleeve and short sleeve dressage show shirts. Which is really down to personal preference. Some riders prefer the look of a long sleeve shirt, while others find them to be too hot and uncomfortable. If you're competing in warm weather, a short sleeve shirt is probably your best bet. But if you're competing in cooler weather, or if you just prefer the look of a long sleeve shirt, then go for it!
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what type of shirt you wear as long as you're comfortable and confident. Men wear a traditional button-down collar short of long sleeve or short sleeve show shirt made with technical material.
Today's Dressage show shirts are fun and have sleeves made from sparkling lurex or lace. Material with a cooling body and some with collars with stock loops to help keep the stock ties in place. Other show shirts have an anti-pull breathable mesh back and even come with raglan sleeves. We always recommend that if riders are competing at a Dressage show without the option to remove their jackets without the judge’s permission or if the riders are at a level of riding where a show jacket is required then a sleeveless style is a great option. If the rider is going to show without their jacket a long sleeve Dressage show shirt would be required.
Sun Shirt Protection for Dressage Riders
As an added bonus, many of today's competition shirts also offer UV sun protection. This is especially important for dressage riders, who are often out in the sun for long periods of time. So if you're looking for a shirt that will keep you cool and protected from the sun, look for one with UV protection on the tag. Often these shirts will have mesh under panels along the arms to allow additional cooling.
Dressage shirt collar
Dressage shirt collar styles again depend on the rider's level of competition, so be sure to ask your trainer or check the appropriate Dressage rule book. COllars come with zippers and are generally closed in the front. Some collars have crystal embellishments.
Some dressage show shirts have fancy collars that close and may have a crystal center button. This is the great thing about Dressage English riding shirts for women can have bling and rhinestones. You can get the lightweight thin Dressage show shirts and then add a stock tie to give riders the formal look in the arena. If jackets are waived by the Dressage judge due to high heat conditions which is often the case in our area of California, without a stock tie and without decoration. A simple white Dressage show shirt is always in style. If you are showing and it's hot out and show coats are optional the rider will want to wear a long sleeve traditional show shirt because this shows respect to the show judge and for proper horse show etiquette.
Dressage Shirt Fit
While we are not sure who thought up the idea to wear white show shirts around horses and mud, this is what we are required to have so always make sure the show shirt is clean and ironed before the dressage show and riders may want to bring along a spare show shirt as a back up just in case. Choose a Dressage show or competition shirt that fits the rider well and lies smoothly without puckering or bunching while still allowing the rider freedom of movement. It is always good to ask a Tack Warehouse team member to evaluate the shirts fit.
Dressage Show Shirt Colors
The color of the horse show shirt is important and should complement the rider's breeches and other show attire. Nowadays shirts for showing Dressage comes with so many options from color pop sides to classic white to colorful shirts that have a white bib front that looks like a traditional show shirt under the rider's coat. We suggest the color sides with white fronts because the color is easier to keep clean than white.
Most importantly, the dressage shirt should be comfortable, breathable, and allow the rider to move freely. It's also important that the shirt fits well and lies smoothly without puckering or bunching under the rider's coat or breeches. Show Shirts for Children
As a rule, children should always wear a proper show shirt when showing Dressage. Children's show shirts are available in a variety of colors and styles to suit every taste. For example, the PS of Sweden Olivia Show Shirt is perfect for younger riders who want a stylish and functional show shirt that looks great both in and out of the arena. The Samshield XS show shirts fit the tween riders and have lots of color and technical options. The Tack Warehouse children's English show shirt collections also include brands from Essex Girls, RJ Classics, ROmfh and Ariat.
Dressage Stock Ties
As riders progress a dressage shirt and stock tie are part of the essential Equestrian rider's wardrobe for the show arena. A stock tie is a piece of material that wraps around the neck collar of your riding shirt and closes in the back adding some fluff. Again these also are white. So the Dressage rider needs to take care to make sure they do not get these dirty and make sure that their stock tie is neatly pressed because it is the centerpiece of the Dressage rider's apparel.
Some stock ties for Dressage come pre-tied so riders just neatly fasten the stock tie at the back of their neck. BUT, pony clubbers are still required to have stock ties they tie themselves and pre-tied stock ties are not allowed. At lower levels or Dressage schooling shows riders do not need to wear a stock tie and can just use their riding shirts.
